Faith formation is of the utmost importance here at St. Philip's. On Sunday morning we offer classes for children, youth, and adults. Here is what is offered for children from birth through Grade 7.
The safety and security of your children while they are on the campus of St. Philip’s is a priority of the Children’s Ministry Team. We will be phasing in a new check-in/check-out system on Sunday mornings. We appreciate your patience and assistance as we try to provide the children the safest environment possible. Please CLICK HERE to read more about our check-in/check-out system for Sunday mornings.
Birth through Age 2:
A nursery for children under age three is provided during the Sunday School hour (9:15-10:15 am) and during the 10:30 am Worship service. The nursery can be found on the first floor of the Parish House (Corner of Church and Cumberland Streets).
Sunday School (Age 3 through 6th grade):
St. Philip's uses a biblically-based curriculum on Sunday mornings. Classes meet on the first floor of the Parish House. Parents, please pick up children promptly at 10:15 a.m. in the child's classroom. The nursery remains open during the 10:30 worship service.
Students in 7th grade will prepare for the Rite of Confirmation. They will use the Apostles’ Creed as an outline for the Christian faith. Parents are asked to come to the first class with their youth. Classes begin in September, and students are confirmed by the Bishop during a special 10:30 worship service in the Spring. The class will meet in the Tea Garden, located behind the Ministries Hall (corner of Church and Queen Streets).
10:30 a.m. Sunday service
Children ages 6-8 are invited to begin their worship at Children’s Chapel in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd, where they will hear a special, age appropriate homily. They will rejoin their families during the Welcome and Announcements. A greeter can direct you to Children’s Chapel. A nursery is available for children ages 3 and under beginning at 10:15 a.m.
Other Children's Ministries
Our Children's Ministries Program consists of more than just Sunday School.
Christmas Pageant (Ages 3-8th grade)
December (Rehearsals in November and December)
Each Christmas, the children of St. Philip's join together to tell the story of the birth of Christ. It allows children to be a part of this important celebration. There are many roles to play, so everyone is invited to participate. Look for details in the inSPIRE.
Vacation Bible School (VBS)
....is an exciting, spirit-filled week of summer fun and learning for children who are graduates of 3K through 6th grade. We begin each morning at 9:00 a.m. with music and hilarious skits with an important message that prepares kids for fun and Christian learning with their VBS teachers. There will be delicious snacks, fun, arts/craft, great story tellers, and plenty of new and old friends. We are done by 12:00 Monday- Thursday. On Friday, all families are invited for a great picnic lunch--11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.. It is truly one of the highlights of St. Philip's Children's Ministries.
VBS 2017 will be held June 19-23. Stay tuned for more information!
