We are currently holding services in our Parish Hall on the corner of Church and Cumberland Streets. The sanctuary and graveyard are closed to weekday visitors due to construction and renovations taking place as part of our Shine the Light capital campaign.
Grandparents have a unique opportunity to pass down wisdom, values, and faith to their grandchildren, including how to handle money from a biblical perspective. With today’s culture promoting instant gratification and excessive spending, grandparents can help their grandchildren develop a strong foundation of financial stewardship based on God’s Word. By instilling key biblical principles and providing age-appropriate financial guidance, grandparents can shape the next generation into wise and faithful stewards.

St. Philip’s first GriefShare course finished up at the end of April. What a privilege it was for me, Juanita Orvin, and Gerry McCord to facilitate this strong grief support program! Thirteen participants completed their work each week, covering topics such as “What is Normal?”, “Loneliness and Sadness,” “Self Care,” “Anger,” “Regrets,” “Questions for God,” “Hope and Resilience,” and more. Here’s what a few folks said about their experience:...

Have you ever stopped to just wonder at Jesus––his childhood, his miracles, his death and resurrection, his plan for a second coming? Last week at St. Philip’s, 65 children ages 4–11 and over 30 youth and adult volunteers did just that!

The World Missions Committee and Uganda Christian University Partners are offering St. Philippians a chance to go on pilgrimage to East Africa October 17–29! We will be spending the majority of our time with our ministry partners at Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono, about 12 miles east of the capital, Kampala, and we will conclude our pilgrimage with a full African safari at Murchinson Falls National Park to observe Uganda’s treasure––its wild animals on the savanna! We will be on the lookout for kob, giraffes, elephants, baboons, warthogs, and even lions and leopards. When we take a boat ride on the Nile to Murchinson Falls, keep your eyes peeled for hippos, beautiful birds, and crocodiles....
At the announcements during the 10:30 service on Sunday, May 11, campaign co-chair Maybank Hagood, flanked by co-chairs Karen Phillips and Martha Freshley, took to the eagle to share that a few days earlier, the campaign had raised pledges and donations surpassing that mark. The congregation responded with a very enthusiastic round of applause....
I come from professional and volunteer church musicians on both sides of my family, and I’ve had a career in church musicianship, so I was naturally eager to read Paul Reese’s recent article in the inSPIRE, “Why Do We Have Music in the Church?” And when I read a particular sentence at the very end of Paul’s article, I felt I wanted to write about my experience wi...
I woke up early on the morning of December 9th with the first line of a poem in my mind. I knew the Lord had given me the thought, so I got up and went to my computer. What followed was several hours of the unfolding of the following poem....
I don’t always find it to be so, but this Lent was a challenging season of self-examination that continues. However, in a recent moment of quiet, the Lord impressed upon me a very uplifting analogy between our spiritual lives and the physical pattern of conception, pregnancy, and birth....
It’s long been my intention to read my Bible regularly. Although it varies at times, I usually read from beginning to end at the daily pace the Lord indicates, noting the application of what seems significant through the practice of journaling. In this way, over the years, I’ve developed a comfortable familiarity with the Scriptures and a conversational relationship wi...
For quite a while now, this small, humble poster (“laminated” with clear boxing tape) has been strategically positioned on a counter in our kitchen where we prepare tea and coffee. It’s been there long enough that I’ve forgotten the details of why I originally made it and placed it there. Time and again, it has caught my eye at just the moment when I am tempted to ...
Once upon a time, there was a master violin maker whose greatest joy was to make the most beautiful violins in the world. With each new instrument that he created, he went to great effort and expense. When each was complete, he would spend many hours testing its limits by playing it as only he could. For he dearly loved each one.

Last Wednesday, I attended the ECW fall dinner along with a large group of some of my favorite people ... the women of St. Philip’s! When asked if I would write about the experience, I went to prayer, and my thoughts began to revolve around the words “call,” “story,” and “kingdom.”
The evening was one of food and fellowship punctuated by a talk given by th...
This morning as I went out the front door briefly on an errand and came back in, my eyes were drawn to our piano. So, I sat down on the bench. There was music there, but just to my left, on the candle stand, there was a service leaflet ... not sure how it got there. I picked it up and saw the familiar words of Psalm 134....
