Monthly Mobile Medical Clinic at St. Jean-Baptiste Offers Regular Care for Mothers and Children

A mobile clinic held last month at St. Jean-Baptiste, our sister church, in Plaine Mapou, Haiti, focused on prenatal exams and care for malnourished infants. Many soon-to-be mothers received check-ups, and clinicians administered Medika Mamba, a therapeutic food for malnourished children, and sent it home with parents, too. Mobile clinics are hosted there and in nine other communities on the island monthly. Mothers receive consistent checkups, and now children are being treated regularly with Medika Mamba!
For over 30 years, Haitian and American partners have been working side by side in mutually transformative relationships to build vibrant, hopeful, and resilient communities on the island of La Gonâve.
Little did St. Philip’s know 30 years ago how important this God-fostered partnership would be. Through hurricanes, 7.0 magnitude earthquakes, drought, COVID, and now five years of political unrest and gang warfare, our sister church has been able to continue to minister to the faithful community of believers. They have continued to provide a Christian education to the wider community of Plaine Mapou (both children and adults) and provide healthcare and agricultural assistance––all in the name of Jesus. Many of our parishioners and priests have been blessed by being part of a mission team to worship and celebrate St. John the Baptist feast day with our brothers and sisters at our sister church.
Please continue to keep our sister church in your prayers. Pray for the lay pastor, teachers, students, community healthcare workers and all the families who gather every Sunday to worship. Pray for an end to the political violence and economic struggles in Haiti. We look forward to the day that we will be able to return and worship with our brothers and sisters together.
Below is a note dated January 4 that we received from La Gonâve Haiti Partners board member Jennell Charles thanking St. Philip’s for our continued support.
I want to thank you and the members of St. Philip’s Church for your generous support of La Gonâve Haiti Partners and the community of Plaine Mapou. Your gifts have been critical in keeping the schools open, providing access to health care resources, ensuring the community has clean water, and even providing programs for adults who want to learn how to read and write for the first time! How marvelous is that!
Please continue to pray for our dear friends and colleagues on La Gonâve and for all people who daily face terrible challenges.
With a grateful heart,
Jennell Charles
