Phase One Goal Reached, Phase Two Begins; Historic Campus Renovations Underway

 Miller campaign update

The Rev. Jeffrey S. Miller, Rector, announces the completion of the first phase of the Shine the Light capital campaign during the 10:30 service on October 6.

What tremendous news we received during church last Sunday! Our Shine the Light  capital campaign, which officially launched in April 2023, reached its Phase One (historic campus renovation) goal of $16.4 million in pledges and donations last week!

In fact, we are also over $500,000 into our missional second phase, which will fund the establishment of a classical Christian school on our campus, putting our current total pledges and donations at about $17 million. “That is extraordinary,” said Miller, “when you consider the fact that eight years ago, we were $1.25 million in debt!”

Miller gave the glory to God for this remarkable feat, for moving in the hearts of his people to make them generous, and he thanked the congregation for that generosity. He reminded us that our work is far from done, however, and he encouraged those who have not yet participated in the campaign to do so.

“I really believe that this is a moment in the life of this congregation,” he said. “I feel that this is an opportunity to shine the light of Christ, not just for our own generation, but for the generations yet to come, to show them that St. Philip’s is going to be around, sharing the Good News of the gospel. And I think that you want to participate in that.”

Contractor Ryan Magee (right) and site manager Nathan Youngman make plans for the next phase of scaffolding on Friday, October 4.

As our campus renovation continues and our construction team, led by our own Jim Stelling of the GEL Group, contractor Ryan Magee of Magee Ratcliffe Construction, site manager Nathan Youngman, and structural engineer Eddie Porcher, work to plan out and install the scaffolding that will soon extend to the top of our spire, our Junior Warden, Penn Hagood, asks you to cover them in prayer: “Pray for the safety of all involved in this delicate undertaking. These are faithful, Godly men, and we are so blessed to have them working at St. Philip’s. We want to cover them, and all others involved, in prayers of protection while they are stretching to such heights to ensure that the Light of the Glory of God shines boldly forth from St. Philip’s for generations to come.”
