At St. John's Chapel: This class focuses on the American Heart Association chain of survival: recognition of a cardiac emergency, 911 call, quick CPR administration, and early use of an AED. All St. Philip’s clergy and most of the staff have already done the course, and we would like to get as many parishioners trained as possible. Email Doug Ringer at ringdoug@gmail.com to sign up.

A note from instructor Doug Ringer:

I recently taught a CPR/AED course St. John’s Chapel, an Eastside mission church of our diocese. St. John’s has begun the process of buying one or two automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and requested the training for their staff and ushers. I will be teaching a second class at St. John’s on Hanover St. at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6. They would be delighted to have some of our congregation attend the training session.

This is just like the previous sessions we have had at St. Philip’s. Although you will not receive certification, I guarantee that if you pay attention and take part in the hands-on training, you will know what to do in the event of a cardiac emergency.

The CPR portion will be “hands only”––we will not teach rescue breathing as a part of the CPR process. The only physical requirement will be getting down on the floor to practice the CPR and use the AED.
