Ladies, come enjoy lunch at St. Philip's with our special guest, Betsy Cahill!

Charleston native Elizabeth Kirkland Cahill (Betsy) graduated from Ashley Hall and went on to study classics at Radcliffe College at Harvard University. She graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa and delivered the Latin oration at commencement. Ms. Cahill was chosen as a Rhodes Scholar and spent three years at Christ Church College, Oxford, where she specialized in Greek tragedy, Shakespeare, and Yeats. Her work on Shakespeare drew the attention of Joseph Papp, founder of the New York Shakespeare Festival, and she collaborated with Papp in the festival and co-authored a book on Shakespeare, Shakespeare Alive!, with him. Cahill then attended Yale Divinity School, from which she graduated summa cum laude with a graduate degree specializing in ancient Hebrew and Greek. Cahill is a regular contributor to scholarly and theological journals, as well as the developer of acclaimed devotional resources for Advent and Lent. Betsy and her husband, John, live in Charleston and are the parents of four children: Thomas, Ella, Jack, and Charlie.
