September 15 was a joyous day at St. Philip’s: the anthems were glorious, the sermon was rousing, the bouncy house was hopping, and the BBQ was delicious and plentiful. Rally Sunday is a day that St. Philippians look forward to every year because it marks the return of Sunday School and the Rector’s Forum after what always seems like an endless summer. But Rally Sunday was a little different this year, because it was also the launch date of St. Philip’s new Hospitality Ministry.

Accompanied by members of the Vestry past and present, volunteers from the Hospitality Ministry team manned a tent on the North side of the church before the Sunday School hour and before and after the service. First-timers were offered welcome bags complete with a discipleship brochure, a card with information about our service times and what we believe as Anglicans, and Benne wafers––what Charleston welcome would be complete without Benne wafers?

“St. Philip’s is such a warm and welcoming parish family, and we want to offer gracious hospitality to visitors and newcomers,” said the Rev. Brian McGreevy, who developed the ministry. “For new folks, it’s not always easy to know where to go or how to connect on Sunday mornings, and our hospitality ministry team is now here to help!”

If you are new to St. Philip’s and looking for ways to get involved, or if you have any questions about the life of our parish, stop by the tent on Sunday! And St. Philippians, please encourage those visiting with you to come see us. We would love to share with newcomers all that our church has to offer!
