Get To Know Our New Children's Choir Director!

news--Zippy Hood

Get to know your director: My name is Zippy Hood, and I am the new children’s choir director at St. Philip’s Church. I am excited to meet all of you and make glorious music to honor our God. I have an extensive choral and instrumental background, teaching both in the private and public sector. St. Philip’s has been my home church for many years, and I grew up participating in both the children and adult choirs. I am married to Billy, my high school sweetheart, and we have a beautiful 10-month-old baby girl named Elizabeth (“Libby”), who put the “Labor” in Labor Day this past September. Lastly, we have a handsome spotted pointer/hound mix named Hunley. I am thrilled to be here and show you the joy of combining music and worship together.

Additional Information

When will the children’s choirs begin rehearsing?
Wednesday, September 14, or Thursday, September 15, depending on the ensemble your child is in.

When do the children sing in a worship service?
Our children sing in eight services throughout the school year. Students also have the option to audition to be lesson readers (lectors) on these designated Sundays.

Extra Services and Events:
On a rare occasion, we may be asked to sing at a wedding, with a visiting choir for Evensong, or for another event. You will be notified in advance, and anything extra outside of the eight services is considered optional. Traditionally, the Canterbury and St. David Choirs go on an international choir tour every three years. More information will be provided in September when our next choir adventure begins.

Summer Choir Camp

Choir camp is a great introduction to our program for new choristers, and the perfect refresher for those returning! We will play games, engage in musical activities, and start prepping for the year. Lunch is provided.

Do you have a child who’d like to try choir but would like to check it out before signing up? This will be a great trial run!
