What in the World is New Wineskins?

News--New Wineskins

Almost every day we watch, read, or hear about people all around the world who are facing unbelievable challenges like hunger, slavery, war, imprisonment, lack of health care, and more. Do you wish you could talk to someone who has actually been there and really knows what is happening? Do you ever wonder if God may want you to do something about it?

There actually is a place where you find out more: New Wineskins Missionary Network. Their mission is to mobilize Anglicans for authentic, cross-cultural partnership around the world. Every three years, they host the New Wineskins Conference in Black Mountain, NC, and it is attended by missionaries from around the world. This is a unique opportunity to talk to real people who live and work in these dangerous and difficult places, who have firsthand knowledge of what is going on and how God is at work in the midst of it all.

Every event is an amazingly well-oiled large experience with powerful keynote speakers who are missionaries and mission thinkers from across the globe. There are countless workshops covering just about everything mission-related you can think of, from reaching Muslims, today’s youth, or international students, to mission technology, sharing your faith, and so much more. To be able to sing out with all your heart and worship alongside about 1200 of your brothers and sisters from about 60 nations all over the world is an experience as close as you can get to what heaven must be like.

One of the most profound experiences from the last conference was on Saturday night when there were banners from all the countries where Christian persecution is taking place––maybe 40-50 banners. We were led in a prayer walk throughout the auditorium, praying for our Christian family in these dark places. The Lord descended upon us in that holy place in a palpable way. How He longs for us to care more deeply about those being persecuted.

Members of St. Philip’s World Missions Committee, congregation, and clergy have been attending these conferences for years. And every time, we are amazed and inspired. We would like to invite you to attend the next conference, which will be September 22-25, 2022. The registration officially opened on October 1, and early bird pricing is available through March 31. The conference fills up quickly, so act fast.
