For many centuries, Christians have spoken of the season of Lent and then of Holy Week leading up to Easter as a journey, a road, a pilgrimage that we are walking by faith in the company of our fellow believers. But even as we approach this journey afresh each year, it is all too easy to think that we know the destination and have been there before, and thus to lose our sense of wonder and awe at what Jesus accomplished. While it was clearly summer in Charleston last week, Sunday’s rain brought along late-winteresque temperatures, and when Tea Room opened at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, the Peninsula was sitting at a brisk 59 degrees despite a bright, cloudless sky, and many people strolling around Church Street were bundled up in long pants and coats.
